Wave soldering equipment

Wave soldering is a process used to solder electronic components onto a printed circuit board, in which a wave of molten solder is used to connect the electronic components to the PCB. The purpose of this process is to enable current flow between the components and the printed circuit board while ensuring a durable connection. During wave soldering, the printed circuit board with mounted electronic components is tilted at an angle and passed through a wave of molten solder flowing from a heated solder pot. The solder wave is designed to melt the solder and create an electrical connection between the electronic components and the printed circuit board. After passing through the solder wave, the PCB is cooled and ready for further processing.

Wave soldering is used in the production of large quantities of electronic devices such as graphics cards, power supplies, and processor modules. This process is fast and efficient, allowing many components to be soldered at the same time. Wave soldering is also more precise than traditional hand soldering, which makes it possible to achieve better and more reliable solder joints. Wave soldering equipment consists of several elements that work together to enable the soldering of electronic components on a printed circuit board. Below are some of the devices used in the wave soldering process:

  • Wave soldering machine: This is the main unit used to solder components onto a printed circuit board. The machine consists of a heated solder pot from which a wave of molten solder flows. The printed circuit board with components is tilted at an angle and passed through the solder wave.
  • Solder supply system: This system consists of a pump and a nozzle that deliver solder to the solder pot. It ensures a constant amount of solder in the pot, which allows a uniform solder wave to be maintained.
  • Preheating system: This system is used to preheat the printed circuit board before it passes through the solder wave. The preheating system helps reduce the risk of component cracking during soldering.
  • Cooling system: This system consists of fans that cool the printed circuit board after it passes through the solder wave. It is important because it allows the soldered joints to cool quickly, which helps prevent component damage.
  • PCB cleaning unit: This device is used to remove excess solder and solder paste from the printed circuit board. Cleaning the PCB after soldering is important because it removes contaminants that may affect the reliability of the solder joints.

Wave soldering equipment is automated and used in mass production. Many manufacturers offer different models and configurations of equipment to meet market requirements and ensure the highest possible quality of soldered connections.
