Kapton tapes
How does Kapton tape work?
Kapton tape is, simply put, a protective tape designed to shield selected components from overheating or exposure to high temperatures when they do not need to be subjected to thermal processing. Kapton remains stable as an insulating material across a very wide temperature range, from 4 to 673 K (-269 to +400 °C). The thermal conductivity of Kapton at temperatures from 0.5 to 5 Kelvin is relatively high for such low temperatures, κ = 4.638×10-3 T0.5678 W·m-1·K-1.
Due to its broad temperature stability range and electrical insulation properties, Kapton tape is commonly used in electronics manufacturing as an insulating and protective layer for components sensitive to electrostatic charges. Because it can withstand the temperatures required for reflow soldering operations, its protective function remains effective throughout the production process, and Kapton is often still present in the finished consumer product.
What makes Kapton tape stand out?
Since Kapton tape is a type of polyimide tape, all the properties that make polyimide tape exceptional also apply to Kapton tape. It is resistant to heat and chemicals, strong, and available in very thin layers. In addition, Kapton tape provides electrical insulation and has a low outgassing rate, making it highly suitable for high-vacuum applications.
Kapton tape offers excellent adhesive properties and leaves no residue after removal. It is particularly difficult to puncture and can adhere to challenging surfaces that other tapes and adhesives simply cannot handle. Only minimal pressure is required to achieve reliable adhesion, which significantly improves application comfort. Kapton tapes in our offer:
