The DDM NOVASTAR LE40V is a high-end pick & place machine designed for accurate SMD component assembly, perfectly suited for both series and prototype production. The LE40V supports a wide range of components: from 0201 and 1206 chips, through MELF, LEDs, SOICs, and SOTs, to PLCCs, fine-pitch QFPs, and BGAs. It handles parts up to 35 × 35 mm and PCB sizes up to 343 × 560 mm. Its advanced “on-the-fly” centering system with ±0.0254 mm accuracy and dynamic correction ensures unmatched placement precision while eliminating errors and misalignments.

Cognex vision system and ergonomic operation

The integrated Cognex vision system uses both upper and lower cameras with resolutions down to 10 µm, enabling precise component recognition and placement. Four (optionally eight) vacuum pick-up heads with automatic nozzle identification and switching support a throughput of up to 3000 components per hour. The four-zone lighting system ensures optimal visual inspection regardless of part shape or color.

The LE40V operates on intuitive Windows-based software that continuously adapts (“learns”) from user input, allowing for quick setup and changeovers. Operators can modify placement programs in real time without halting production. Multi-panel PCB support, unlimited program memory, and automatic fiducial recognition further streamline the assembly process.

With support for up to 96 8-mm tape feeders using the Bank Feeder system, the LE40V can handle a large variety of components without frequent reloading. Optional modules for solder paste or adhesive dispensing expand its use across different SMT applications.
